Abstract: Experiments were carried out both in the field and laboratory to determine the factors affecting escape behavior of Sphenomorphus indicus .In the field, approach distances were positively correlated with refuge distances, but no significant correlation with body temperatures and substrate temperatures.Adult S.indicus had similar approach distance as juveniles in open microhabitats, but larger than juveniles in closed microhabitats. In the laboratory, difference between sexes in approach distance was found, which was larger for females than males during reproductive season.
