Abstract: Using organic solvents for the isolation of proanthocyanidins from grape seeds was a conventional method.Using water, methanol, ethanol and acetone as extractants, procyanidins were extracted from grape seeds.Colorimetry with ferric ions as catalytic agent was used to determinate the procyanidins in the grape seed extracts. Some factors affecting extraction process, such as concentration of extractants and the degree of crushed grape seeds were studied. The optimum conditions of extraction were obtained on the basis of optimum treatment: the degree of crushed grape seeds 100 mesh, the solvent 70% aqueous methanol.
