A STUDY ON FILAMENTOUS ORGANISMS IN A BULKING SLUDGE

Abstract: An activated sludge sample derived from purification plant with bulking sludge has been investigated for the presence of filamentous organisms.The 13 species which were identified or distinguished can be classified in 9 genera. We discovered that two genera represented by the species Candida salmanticensis and Paecilomyces variotii and seven species of four genera, Baci.megatherium,Asp.versicolor,Asp.sydowii,T.koningii, P. chrysogenum, P. citrinum, P. jensenii were not reported previously. However, the genera, Penicillium, Trichoderma, Aspergillus were only reported in activated sludge.
