Abstract: The effects of acid rain in Chongqing region on biochemical intensities of soil microorganisms and activities of soil enzymes were studied in 1984—1986. Acid rain reduces soil ammonification and nitrification, increases cellulose decomposition, but has little effects on humus decomposition and nitrogen fixation. The activities of soil proteinase, invertase and catalase were reduced, while the activity of phosphatase was increased markedly.
