Abstract: Some important items and controlling factors involved in the process of soil acidification are discussed in this paper.Soil acidification,as reflected by alkali neutralizing capacityand pH,may be affected by atmospheric acid deposition, which is companied by the accelerated leaching loss of base cations, lowering of pH and mobilization of aluminum to formhydroxyl aluminum suflate minerals. Two parameters △M/△H and △pH/△H may be used asvalid indices for evaluating the soil responses to atmospheric acid deposition.
