Preliminary Study on the Acute Injury of Mulberry by Atmospheric Phenol

Abstract: Two year old grafted seedlings of mulberry and 4 instar silkworm are tested under fumigation with dif-ferent concentration phenols.The results show that,(1) after acute injury by phenol, leaf production ofmulberry ixreduced by 20%,leaf quality is deteriorated with a decrease of water soluble sugar and coarseprotein contents by 31.8% and 19.9% respectively;(2) after 5 times fumigation,the yield and quality ofsilkworm cocoon is deteriorated, adult spawning rate is extensively reduced,and the proportion of unfer-tilized eggs is significantly increased,which are detrimental to silkworm breeding,
