Abstract: The article reports the results of salt tolerance of Spartina alternilora using automatic sand culture device which simulated the alternative flooding and exposing conditions of seawater on intertidal zone of seashore. After one week's culturing under 5 different salinaty levels of artificial seawater(0,1/3,2/3,1 and 4/3 of seawater),the seedlings of S.alternif lora were determined for the contents of total flavonoids, chlorophyll, soluble sugar and proline. The results showed that there were positive correlationships between the salinity and the contents of total flavonoids, soluble sugar and proline, while a negative correlationship between the salinity and the content of chlorophll. It was obvious that the change of the content of total flavonloids in S.alternif lora was an impertant indicatorof its response to the salt stress.
