Abstract: Plant-based remediation techniques are showing prospects for use in the contaminated soil with organic and inorganic pollutants. Two contrasting approaches are being pursued: decontamination and stabilization, including phytoextration, phytodegradation and phytostabilization. Its mechanism, advantage, limitation and application are discussed.

Key words: cucumber, soil compaction stress, root growth, root activity, nitrogen metabolism.
