Abstract: This paper reports the population and distribution of Selenarctos thibelanus in the Minshan mountains of Sichuan in 1998.Five surveyed counties (cities) occupy 40.1% of total area. The analysis indicates that the average density of Selenarctos thibelanus is 0.0214~0.0289km2,and the average number of Selenarctos thibelanus is estimated as 395 in the Minshan mountains. The distribution center of Selenarctos thibelanus is Qingchuan,Beichuan and southeast of Pingwu. The density gradually decreases from the center towards all directions.
