Abstract: Social, economic, ecological and geomorphic factors are needed to be considered when designing the buffer zone of natural reserve. In this paper, the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) was applied to design the width of buffer zone.Under considerating the influences in different sections around the reserve, different widths of the buffer zone were designed, and a case study was carried out in Yancheng Biosphere Reserve. The results showed that the proposed method was reasonable and practicable in designing the buffer zone of nature reserve.
