Abstract: Based on field and laboratiory experiments, the effect of different management approaches on site fertility and sustainability of plantation ecosystems such as Cunninghamia lanceolata and Pinus massoniana is analysed. The results show that some biopathways such as intercropping with leguminous grass, silviculture of mixed plantations, introducing broadleaved tree species after thinning, and some engineering measures such as application of fertilizers and changing methods of site preparation can be helpful to the recovery of soil fertility and the increase of productivity of pure conifer forest.
