Abstract: Experiment was conducted to study the influence of N and P on population constiuent of planktonic diatoms in seawater. The concentrations of N and P and their ratios might significantly affect the population constituent of planktonic diatoms in seawater, the more the concentrations of N and P and the bigger the N/P ratio to Redfield ratio, the less the species of planktonic diatoms and Shannon's index. The experimental result was verified in the investigation from shrimp culturing ponds.
