Comparative study on clonal and sexual reproductive traits of Leymus chinensis populations in different habitats

Abstract

Abstract: The variations of clonal and reproductive traits between four Leymus chinensis populations in different habitats were studied on northeast grasslands of China. The results showed that significant differences existed among Leymus chinensis populations in both clone traits (vegetative shoot densities and tiller densities) and sexual reproduction traits (reproductive shoot densities,reproductive shoot differentiation and reproductive effects),primarily due to the habitat heterogeneity of sites,especially the difference in soil moisture.The difference between grassland population and dune population was relatively greater,and the average vegetative shoot density,tiller density and sexual shoot density from grassland population were 50%,30% and 200% greater than those from dune,respectively.
