Abstract: In this paper, the ecological effect of HMs on soil microbes is reviewed, based on the analyses of the influence of HMs on soil microbial activities, populations and communities; the factors affecting HM toxicity on soil microorganisms; the criteria for evaluating HM toxicity on soil microorganisms;the resistance and adaptation of soil microorganisms to HMs; and the variety of HM toxicity.
