Abstract: Studies on the growth characteristics of pond-reared reeves shad before its maturation show that its gtowtk-rate varies with different seasons and water temperature, being maximum from September to November and from May to July. The optimal water temperature is 25-32℃.Its body weight-body length relationship can be expressed by W=5.0694 × 10-5L2.8035, and the general pattern of its annual growth can be expressed by Von Bertalanffy growth equation: L1= 518.95 [ 1-e-0.7351(t-0.8763)],Wt=2205.5[ 1- e-0.3751(t-0.8763)]3, tr= 2.8053.Its growth dynamics is represented by its growth rate and accelerated curves. The pond-reared sbad has a high growth potential, and can be cultured commercilly in ponds.
